The Saddle Creek Bridge is located 115km west of the township of Timber Creek on the Victoria highway which connects the NT and WA.
The project included the construction of a 2No. 13m long span bridge in the existing eastern depression and a 3No. 13m long bridge over the existing crossing. These new bridges raised the road level to a 1-in-50 year flood immunity level.
The works comprised of:
- Clearing of vegetation and creation of detour
- Removal of the existing culvert and bridge crossing
- Relocation of services
- Gravel extraction and transportation
- Grading, compaction and sealing works
- Construction of two new bridges with varying capacity openings and relief; and
- Treatment of immediate and downstream embankments to prevent scouring.
