Saddle Creek Bridge

Prestressed Bridge Construction over the Saddle Creek on the Victoria Highway.

The project

The Saddle Creek Bridge is located 115km west of the township of Timber Creek on the Victoria highway which connects the NT and WA.
The project included the construction of a 2No. 13m long span bridge in the existing eastern depression and a 3No. 13m long bridge over the existing crossing. These new bridges raised the road level to a 1-in-50 year flood immunity level.
The works comprised of:
  • Clearing of vegetation and creation of detour
  • Removal of the existing culvert and bridge crossing
  • Relocation of services
  • Gravel extraction and transportation
  • Grading, compaction and sealing works
  • Construction of two new bridges with varying capacity openings and relief; and
  • Treatment of immediate and downstream embankments to prevent scouring.
