Stokes Hill Wharf Refurbishment

Innovative engineering solution for the reconstruction of 5000 m2 of concrete deck

The project

Advance Civil Engineering were engaged for
the refurbishment of the iconic Stokes Hill Wharf situated in the heart of Darwin. The contract was awarded to Advance in April 2011
Advance offered the client an innovative engineering solution for the reconstruction of 5000 m2 of concrete deck using a transfloor system with 200 thick in situ reinforced slab cast over the transfloor. This eliminated the costly and lengthy process of installing and stripping conventional formwork over water.

The other project aspects include:
  • The fabrication and installation of 21 fender piles, each pile at 32 m long, driven to a depth of 6 m into the seabed. High pressure blasting and coating of 18000 m2 of steelwork and piles
  • Replacement of water and sewerage along the wharf
  • Extensive repairs to the structural steel girders and headstocks after high pressure blasting highlighted the extent of the structural deterioration.
  • The site crew consisted of 10 workers assisted by a 15 tonne Franna and 70 tonne Liebherr Crane.
  • Advance managed all project disciplines including traffic control, environmental management and Occupational Health & Safety Plans.
