The project
Darwin Ship Lift - Blast and Paint - Bored Piling
The Blast and Paint Facility is the largest onshore structure within the Darwin Ship Lift Project. It provides a controlled environment for the abrasive blasting and painting of vessels following lifting operations.
The facility is supported by a reinforced concrete slab and beam structure founded on bored pile foundations. A total of seven different bored pier types were constructed to meet the structural and geotechnical requirements of the facility.
Scope of Works
- Drilling and construction of 59 bored piles, including rock socketing to depths ranging from 2000 mm to 7600 mm with pile diameters between 600 mm and 1,500 mm.
- Fabrication and installation of 59 reinforced steel cages.
- Implementation of a dual drilling operation using KR40 and SR30 piling rigs to optimise productivity, reduce construction duration, and improve project efficiency.
- Completion of concrete works with production rates of up to three pile pours per day, while maintaining strict quality requirements for reinforcement installation, concrete placement, testing, and curing processes.
- Management and coordination of civil, structural, and concrete construction activities within a FSC-accredited major construction environment.
